Montana Medicaid Tribal Consultation

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services recognizes the importance of the unique government to government relationship between the State and Tribes, as well as the unique needs of the American Indians receiving services from the Department. As part of fulfilling its responsibility to serving Tribes and their members, the Department consults with Tribes to solicit their feedback regarding aspects of the Medicaid program. Formal in-person tribal consultations are face-to-face meetings between Tribal Council leaders, Tribal Health directors, Urban Indian Health Center directors, Indian Health Service and the Department. The Department also consults with Tribes throughout the year via written correspondence in addition to the in-person meetings.

For more information about the purpose, process and requirements for tribal consultation, see the  Medicaid Tribal Consultation State Plan.
