DPHHS Seeks Community First Choice Advisory Council Members

The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is seeking Montanans to serve on its Community First Choice (CFC) Advisory Council.

The 15-member council’s mission is to advise DPHHS on the development and implementation of the CFC State Plan, quality assurance strategies, and strategies to maximize member self-direction, choice, and satisfaction with program services.

Federal regulations stipulate the council be comprised of a majority of individuals with disabilities, older adults, and their representatives. The council typically meets virtually on a quarterly basis and consists of subcommittees that meet in between regular meetings.

The CFC program provides in-home assistance for individuals with disabilities and older adults and stresses the importance of consumer-control, self-determination, and independent living through allowing individuals to direct their own care as much as possible.

CFC services are critically important for many individuals with disabilities and older adults to be able to live in their own homes and participate in their communities.

Those interested in joining the council can:

  • Build upon existing progress: Collaborate with experienced council members who have been working diligently to shape and enhance CFC.
  • Share ideas and expertise: Bring fresh insights and innovative solutions to the table, contributing to ongoing discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Influence future initiatives: Help steer our program's trajectory by actively participating in policy formation and project planning.
  • Connect with like-minded individuals: Engage with passionate council members, expand your network, and establish meaningful relationships with fellow stakeholders.

“Whether you are a longtime participant in these services, a family member of someone receiving services, a representative of a provider agency, or an interested party, we value your perspective and believe that your involvement can play a pivotal role in the growth and development of the CFC program,” said DPHHS Community Services Section Supervisor Michelle Christensen.

If you are an individual who receives CFC services or are a family member of an individual who receives CFC services and are interested in joining or learning more about the council, please contact Gloria Garceau-Glaser at 406-941-0250 or Christensen at 406-270-4211.
