Alzheimer’s and Dementia Program

The Alzheimer's and Dementia Program is offering ‘mini-grants’ to local and tribal community resources or organizations to address brain health, early diagnosis, disease awareness, and caregiver support. The funding will support awardees in creation and completion of projects related to dementia and memory loss in their communities.  Please see the application below for more information. If you have further questions, please see contact information on the right.

Dementia Funding Opportunity 2026

Dementia significantly impacts more than 40,000 Montanans.  Alarmingly, Alzheimer’s Disease kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. The vast majority of care provided is by unpaid family members and partners, resulting in a significant financial toll on families. The disease carries a severe human cost: one in three adults will die with Alzheimer’s Disease.  You can take action: learn steps you can take to reduce your risk and support your brain health!

Stop Smoking

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Program aims to meet the needs of Montanans experiencing the impact of dementia and to educate the public on ways to reduce the risk of developing the diseases. To guide these efforts, a dedicated steering committee has been established. The committee consists of a group of professionals and people with lived experience that is representative of Montana to assist in building statewide infrastructure. A state plan to address Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia's (ADRD) was originally developed by the longstanding ADRD Coalition and reviewed by the committee prior to publication. The plan was published in May 2025, and a link is provided below. The plan focus areas are:

  1. Increase Public Awareness Around Risk Reduction and Brain Health Strategies
  2. Improve Early Detection of Dementia
  3. Enhance the Quality, Access, and Coordination of Dementia Care
  4. Enhance and Expand Support for Family Caregivers
  5. Advance Dementia Research and Health Care Evaluation

These goal areas reflect the action items outlined in the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI). The HBI was created through collaboration between the Alzheimer's Association and the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). The four domains identified are as follows:

  • Build a Diverse Workforce,
  • Engage and Educate the Public,
  • Strengthen Partnerships and Policies, and
  • Measure, Evaluate and Utilize Data.

If you, or a loved one, are experiencing concerns with memory loss, please see the list of resources below. The Alzheimer’s Association also facilitates a 24/7 helpline at 1-800-272-3900 which is accessible to all. If you are interested in participating in either the steering committee or the ADRD coalition, please use the contact information to the right.
