Aging Services
The Aging Services Bureau is Montana’s designated State Unit on Aging, responsible for overseeing programs that support older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, and communities statewide. Its work promotes independence, dignity, and well‑being for Montanans as they age.
Through partnerships with nine Area Agencies on Aging, services reach residents in every region of the state. Programs range from nutrition and caregiver support to advocacy and education, all designed to strengthen quality of life and safeguard the rights of older adults and people with disabilities.

Caregivers often devote countless hours to providing support, which can take a toll on their own health and well-being. Respite care offers caregivers a chance to rest, recharge, and attend to personal needs while ensuring their loved one continues to receive compassionate care. These services are designed to provide peace of mind, reduce stress, and strengthen the ability of caregivers to continue their vital role.

Tailored Caregiver Assessment and Referral (TCARE)
Caregiving can be rewarding but also exhausting. TCARE is a new program offered through Montana’s Area Agencies on Aging to help caregivers manage stress and prevent burnout. Through a guided assessment, caregivers receive a personalized plan with recommendations such as respite services, counseling, or local programs. This support helps caregivers stay healthy and resilient while continuing to care for their loved ones at home.

The State Plan on Aging is Montana’s roadmap for supporting older adults. Required by the federal Older Americans Act, it outlines priorities like nutrition, transportation, caregiver support, and advocacy. Updated every four years with community input, the plan guides funding and services so older Montanans can live independently and with dignity — while preparing for the future needs of the state's aging population.
