Contract Balances

Federal fiscal year end 2014 is fast approaching. Please be aware of your contract balances for the WIC program. If you are not going to expend the entire balance for your contract, please contact Michelle Sanchez as soon as possible at (406) 444-3451.

State Ordered Formula

In May we provided training on how and when to use the SPIRIT Utilities tool to document formula cans that are returned (physical cans, not checks). The purpose of this tool is to better track over-issuance and reduce paper scanning. This tool is NOT to be used for special formulas ordered by the State, as SPIRIT is not calculating cans issued and voided. For State ordered formula that is being returned to the clinic, please simply document the amount and circumstances in the chart. We will review this as needed when assessing over-issuance and for monitoring purposes. The Void-reissue form should no longer be used for documentation of this transaction.

Over Issuance

You will receive your Over Issuance Statement and Report later in the month than usual. Leah will be out of the office the first week of August and due to month-to-month issuance, it cannot be completed before the first. You can expect these the second week in August. Participant Fraud and Abuse information will go out at the beginning of the month as usual.

Formula Return Step-by-Step Guide

The Formula Return Guide is step-by-step instructions on how to return formula using the Formula Return function in M-SPIRIT utilities. As a reminder, use this tool instead of filling out a void/reissue form and scanning it into the participant chart. If you have any questions, contact Leah.

July Time Study Wrap-up

July is rapidly coming to an end! Everyone should have been entering their WIC time spent each day this month. I am aware that a lot of agency staff do not enter WIC hours in a timely fashion (I check). Trying to recreate an entire month is not in your best interest or that of the WIC program. If you have any problems, please let Bernadette know or call the HelpDesk at (406) 444-2740.

Nutrition Education

Are you looking to update, refresh or supplement your participant nutrition education handouts? Check out the Eat Right and My plate websites for excellent materials on such topics as "25 Healthy Snacks for Kids" and "Got Your Dairy Today?". In addition, USDA has clip art available on their site, so you can easily use health and nutrition graphics in your own materials.

Sara Lee Bread

Sara Lee sells a 20 oz. loaf of bread which looks very similar to the 16 oz. WIC approved bread. Please be mindful of this when guiding participants through the food list. View this picture of the bread. The key difference is this bread does not say "Classic." Thanks!

Updated Order Forms

The Forms and Nutrition Education Material order form have been changed from packets of 25 each to packets of 50 each. The MICR Cartridges and Benefit Stock order form has been updated to include M401N printers. Please use these updated forms.
