M-SPIRIT Update

M-SPIRIT is updating to a new version this morning. If you have not done so already, please review the recorded training and bug fix spreadsheet, located under Training on the Local Agency Staff page of the WIC website. If you have any questions, please contact the Helpdesk or Leah. There is also a change to the bug fix spreadsheet. Risk factor 201 will continue to system assign for all appropriate categories. The bug fix is it will now properly assign for 3 year olds.

Quarter Food Packages

The quarter package proration in M-SPIRIT is still being developed. If you print a quarter package for a participant, please give them all benefits; they will receive close to a half package. We will publish the quarter packages amounts when M-SPIRIT proration is configured.

Conference Call Minutes for November 7, 2013

The minutes for the Local Agency Conference Call and Farm Direct Conference Call are available now. If you find an error in the minutes, send the correction to Chris.

Growth Grids

This is a friendly reminder that it is expected that whenever a participant is measured for weight and/or length, the grid is shown and discussed with them. This should be clearly stated in the chart and we do look for this in monitoring. Let Chris or Kate know if you have any questions about this policy.

Risk Code 114

We noticed an error in the way the Risk Code Chart has risk 114, overweight or at risk for overweight. The title has it specified for children, and a priority code is only listed in that category. However, this code can and should also apply to infants whose mother had a pre-conception BMI in the obese range. M-SPIRIT will let you assign this code to an infant and we expect when a mother and new baby are being certified, for you to assess for this code. Please ask Kate or Chris if you have any questions. Here is a link to the updated table.

Pregnant and Postpartum Women Are At Higher Risk for Stroke

See this article for information about the increased risk of stroke, symptoms and resources related to stroke risk in young women around pregnancy.
