Improve WIC Service Delivery with Journey Maps Webinar

The National WIC Association is sponsoring this webinar on November 12, 2013, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Learn about how a new tool called a journey map can be useful for WIC program managers and staff. In particular, learn how to use a journey map to identify opportunities for making improvements in your clients’ experiences in the clinic, at the grocery store, and at home preparing meals.

There is a web-x M-SPIRIT Training on November 14th at 8:30 am. We will also post the training on the WIC Web Page for staff who are unable to attend the training. All staff should review the training before Monday November 18th when a new version of M-SPIRIT is released into production. To participate in the training:

New Participant Fraud and Abuse Form

There is a new Participant Fraud and Abuse form on the website under Clinic Admin Forms. There is a new check box for “Intent to sell WIC foods or benefits.”

Minutes from the October BPCP Conference Call

The minutes from the October Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program conference call held on October 23, 2013, are posted on the web page.

Loving Support Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training

Ravalli County WIC will be holding a peer counselor training on Tuesday November 19, 2013, from 8:30am to 4:00pm at the Hamilton WIC office. If anyone is interested in attending, please call Jackie or Teresa at 406-375-6686 by Thursday, November 14th. There will be a cost for supplies (peer counselor binder, etc) of $35.00. Lunch will be provided.

Advances and Controversies in Clinical Nutrition

The American Society for Nutrition is holding the Advances and Controversies in Clinical Nutrition in Washington, DC. The conference will be held December 5-7, 2013, at the Capital Hilton. Registration and more details are available.

First Food Desert Resources, from First Food Friendly

The First Food Friendly project has published a new infographic explaining the concept of first food deserts, also available as an animated video. The project defines first food deserts primarily by assessing the access to and scope of meaningful and consistent breastfeeding support. "First Food Deserts: Rethinking Food Access for Infants", a post published in the blog The Broad Side, highlights the impact of first food deserts and how the project will address them.
