Encouraging Our FMNP Participants to Shop at the Farmers' Market

We are quickly coming to the end of our summer farmers' market season and September is shaping up to be a busy month with late summer produce coming to the markets. Please encourage all of your FMNP participants to take advantage of the summer weather by getting out to the markets to redeem their benefits. We received the news from our FMNP bank that only about 26 percent of our FMNP funds have been spent so far. This means that there are potentially a lot of participants who have not yet redeemed their benefits. Possible ways to encourage them include creating a poster to be displayed at your clinic, sending them a post card that encourages them to go, and placing a phone call that lets them know where the closest market to them is, the times it is open, and what types of produce are likely to be found there. Thank you in advance for your efforts in this important outreach activity.

Help Desk Reminder

For your convenience, we provided the synopsis below as a "refresh" of a known M-SPIRIT bug.

When an infant is VOC certified, the system's nightly process will extend the certification end date by six months. When you notice this change, you should do the following:

1. Verify what the correct certification end date is.
2. Make a note to call the WIC Help Desk on or after the correct certification end date. If you need to recertify the participant before this date, then make the call on the date of the recertification appointment.
3. When you call, let us know that a VOC certification end date was changed and it needs to be corrected. Be prepared with the participant's State WIC ID and the correct certification end date.
