| Mainframe: | You will know if you need your mainframe password reset if you get the message "Password not Matched" or "Login suspended because of password violations". Once you login with the new password you will get a Change Password window. Type in a new password, tab, and type in the new password a second time and hit enter. If you are using the internet version, you will get a network login first. If you are within the firewall, use montana for the user name and 3270 for the password. If outside the firewall, use MAINFRAME for the user name and DPHHS for the password. To change your mainframe password, put in your old password, tab and change the “N” to a “Y” for the change password question and enter. When you successfully change your mainframe password it automatically changes your DocumentDirect and Caps DocGen passwords. If you are using the internet version, you will get a network login first. Use montana (all lower case) for the user name and 3270 for the password. |

| Network: | If you use only one password to get to your desktop and you get asked to change your network or Windows password, select no to the change password option. When your computer has completed booting up, press ctrl-alt-delete, and select change password. There are two possibilities here. The first one is to verify that there is a check mark in front of e-directory and Windows password, if not select both and fill in the fields (what it is asking you) or the second is if it says STATE_OF_MONTATA and PHHS nothing needs to be selected, just fill in the fields. When you successfully change this password, if you use the DPHHS Citrix site (to get into applications like PERQS or Time and Travel) it is automatically changed too. | |

VIII. State Standards for Information Technology Passwords
(1) State agencies and their employees shall follow these standards when establishing passwords for users, networks, computer systems or other information technology resources:
(a) Passwords must be at least 6 characters long;
(b) Passwords must contain at least one numeric and one alphabetic character;
(c) Passwords must not be obvious or easily guessed (userID, user's name, address, birth date, child's name, spouse's name);
(d) Passwords must be changed at least every 60 days;
(e) Passwords must not be reused for at least 4 cycles;
(f) Passwords must not be written down where they can be found by unauthorized personnel;
(g) Passwords must not be shared with other individuals.
