Information for Prospective Residents

The Eastern Montana Veterans' Home is an 80-bed intermediate/skilled-care facility including a 16-bed Alzheimer’s unit. The facility has certification from the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services and the Veterans' Administration. The facility opened its doors for admission in July 1995. EMVH was built by the state of Montana with the assistance of the Federal Veterans' Administration and is managed by Glendive Medical Center http://www.gmc.org/

The Alzheimer’s wing has a private dining room, quiet room and enclosed courtyard. The remaining 64-beds are located in four wings. Each exit in the facility is equipped with a security system and a wonder guard system. The wonder guard system was installed for the safety of those residents who have a dementia diagnosis, primarily Alzheimer’s disease from leaving the facility.

Our rooms are double occupancy with a shared toilet facility between two rooms, and a specialized bath and shower facilities exist on each wing. Additional host rooms are available for dental services, physician exams and barber/ hair salon services, just to mention a few. A large dining room provides for pleasant dining in a home like atmosphere. A large activities room adjoins a conference room this area also includes a chapel area.

EMVH has two resident lounges both have large-screen televisions. (Funds for the televisions were provided by the VFW Auxiliary and the Montana National Guard Thrift Store). We have three large aquariums and a bird aviary in the common areas for the watching enjoyment of the residents. A large gazebo, walking paths and a garden area provides the residents with plenty of outdoor activities.

The staff is very dedicated to responding to the needs and care of the residents and making residents feel “at home” at Eastern Montana Veterans’ Home. Many of their families have made positive comments on the quality of care their loved ones receive at EMVH.

The facility offers many services for its residents, including an excellent activities program, spiritual need services, support group services and social services in addition to rehab services which are comprised of physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy and dietitian services.  A Veteran’s physician provides on-site care for our veterans

The admission policy of EMVH is to admit veterans who qualify for skilled and intermediate nursing care. Spouses and surviving spouses will be admitted on space-available bases. A veteran and spouse may be admitted together if they both qualify for nursing-home care. EMVH has an open admission policy regardless of race, color, creed, age, national origin, medical diagnosis or handicap.

To be eligible for admission a person must be an honorably discharged veteran or the spouse or surviving spouse of a veteran who served in the armed forces of the United States, along with an order from a physician stating that nursing home care is required LINK

Residents pay on the basis of their ability. The Veterans' Administration pays part of the cost for each veteran, spouse are not included in this. Per capita fees are less than in most nursing homes http://dma.mt.gov/mvad/.
