The Strategic National Stockpile is a national repository of antibiotics, chemical antidotes, antitoxins, life-support medications, IV administration, airway maintenance supplies and medical/surgical items. The SNS is designed to rapidly supplement and re-supply local and state public health agencies in the event of a public health emergency.
Twelve-hour Push Packages containing pharmaceuticals, antidotes and medical equipment, are the first deployment of supplies. These Push Packages are positioned in strategically located, secure warehouses ready for immediate release to a predetermined recieving site in Montana. The assets can arrive within 12 hours of the federal decision to deploy SNS assets. For more information go to www.bt.cdc.gov/stockpile/index.asp.
Montana has agreements with county and tribal governments to maintain their own SNS plans to recieve and distribute and needed medical supplies for their area. Plans are reviewed biannually.
