Temporary Emergency Lodging Program
This is a voluntary temporary emergency lodging program for licensed establishments located in Montana to assist designated charitable organizations in providing short-term lodging in Montana to individuals and families displaced from their residences. The individuals eligible for referral are those who are displaced because of temporary immediate danger from an assault or potential assault by a partner or family member. [Refer to 45-5-206, MCA]
Participating establishments are eligible for a tax credit as provided in 15-30-196 and 15-31-171, MCA for up to 5 nights of lodging for each individual per calendar year. For more information about the tax credit, contact Brian Olsen at the Department of Revenue: phone 406-444-2994; email bolsen@mt.gov.
Designated charitable organizations approved to make a referral to licensed establishments must be non-profit organizations that work with victims of domestic violence. A list of approved organizations throughout Montana is available at the Montana Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence web site.
Establishments must have a current validated license from the Department of Public Health and Human Services. To determine licensing status, contact Food & Consumer Safety at 406-444-2408, or the county sanitarian.
This program was created in response to 50-51-114 and 50-51-115, MCA.
