Symposium to support military, Veteran community is August 12 in Billings

A free one-day symposium to support the military and Veteran community will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12 in Billings.

The Mobilizing Our Community Symposium takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Faith Chapel on Shiloh Road.

Organizers say the event will provide the state’s men and women in uniform with access to behavioral health, legal, financial, career and faith-based information. There will also be opportunities to network with community members, military and veteran service providers.

Army OneSource, Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) the VA Montana Health Care System, and Faith Chapel are co-hosting the event.

“Service members, Veterans, and families sacrifice a lot for Montana,” said Ryan Luchau of the DPHHS Veterans Health Access Program Project. “Complicated by wounds that are not just physical, but behavioral, emotional and spiritual, these individuals often need advanced support as they integrate back into society.

Luchau explains that it’s likely the majority of service members and families needing transition assistance will first seek services and support in the communities where they reside. “That’s why this event is so important because we’re bringing together providers who can connect people to services in their community,” he said.

Montana has over 3,200 active-duty service members in all branches, 5,000 current National Guard and Reservists, and 103,000 Veterans living in the state. “Montana has a significant responsibility to help our service members, Veterans, and families,” he said. “Together our state can make a significant impact on how our Veterans are able to continue their mission in Montana.”
