Montanans to be honored for work preventing child abuse and neglect
Montanans dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect will be honored Tuesday, April 17 at the annual Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect Conference awards presentation, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) announced today.
The event takes place in Helena at 11 a.m. at the Red Lion Colonial Inn.
Those recognized every year are licensed foster parents, judges, youth in foster care, child advocates, legislators and DPHHS staff.
“We’ll be honoring those who have worked so hard to prevent child abuse and neglect,” DPHHS Director Anna Whiting Sorrell said. “I am so proud of all the extra effort put forth by these outstanding individuals. These people have really stepped up to the plate to help children. I know that in order to prevent child abuse and neglect it takes all of us working together.”
Those being recognized this year are from Arlee, Kalispell, Butte, Bozeman, Missoula, Deer Lodge, Billings and Livingston.
The award winners won’t be announced until April 17.
DPHHS will give out the following awards:
- Montana’s Children’s Trust Fund award.
- Resource Parents of the Year.
- Youth Achievement of the Year.
- Above and Beyond Award.
- Engaging Families in Positive Change.
The Montana Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) organization will also give out several awards. CASA refers to trained community volunteers appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. CASA awards are:
- Judge of the Year.
- Director of the Year.
- CASA Volunteer of the Year.
- Child Protection Specialist Worker of the Year.
The three-day conference is being held from April 17-19 and brings together foster/adoptive parents, therapists, counselors, judges, Tribal social service representatives, county attorneys and DPHHS Child and Family Services Division staff.
