Tobacco Prevention Conference Begins April 24
WHO: Victor DeNoble, a former Philip Morris research scientist who became the first whistleblower to reveal the tobacco industry’s secrets about the dangerous health effects of tobacco will keynote next week’s Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program’s (MTUPP) statewide annual conference in Helena. The event is called “Big Tobacco: Behind the Smoke Screen.”
Other noteworthy items include:
- Monday, April 23, 1:55 to 2:45 p.m. As a prelude to the conference, DeNoble will visit C.R. Anderson Middle School to present in teacher Peggy Schluter’s seventh-grade health class. DeNoble’s talk will help students recognize and understand the powerful strategies and tactics employed by the tobacco industry.
- Tuesday, April 24, 2:30 p.m. Montana teens selected to participate in the conference will serve on a panel to discuss their experiences in tobacco prevention. In addition, they will organize and execute activism activities throughout the conference.
WHAT: The MTUPP conference will help participants recognize and understand the powerful strategies and tactics employed by the tobacco industry, as well as enhance participants’ skills in counter marketing and addiction prevention.
