Governor's Council Seeks Centenarians

The Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging is looking for Montanans age 100 or older to honor at a special luncheon next month in Helena.

The luncheon will be part of the 39th annual Governor’s Conference on Aging, May 22-24 at the Colonial Red Lion Hotel in Helena. This year’s theme will be “The Many Faces of Aging.”

In 2000, the U.S. Census revealed that there were 162 Montana centenarians. By 2025, that number is estimated to top 3,000, according to Brian LaMoure, with the Senior and Long Term Care Division of the state Department of Public Health and Human Services.

LaMoure said all centenarians are invited to attend the conference free of charge. Even those who are nominated but unable to attend will be recognized at the luncheon on May 22.

To nominate a centenarian, send a photo of the individual, his or her name and address, and answers to the following questions to LaMoure by April 30:

  • How old are you?
  • Where and when were you born? If not born in Montana, what brought you here, and when?
  • What is your secret to living a long life?
  • What has been the most wonderful event in your life that you would like to share?
  • What do you think of the television, telephone, and computer?
  • What is your favorite quote or saying?
  • What else would you like us to know?
  • Can you attend the luncheon?

Nominations should be sent by e-mail to blamoure@mt.gov or by mail to Brian LaMoure, DPHHS – SLTC, PO Box 4210, Helena, MT 59604-4210.
