Medicare Clients Must Seek $600 Drug Credit Before March 15

February 18, 2005

Low-income Medicare beneficiaries can get a $600 credit toward the cost of their prescription drugs if they enroll in the Medicare Approved Drug Discount Card Program by March 15, according to Kimme Evermann, director of the State Health Insurance and Assistance Program (SHIP).

Any Medicare beneficiary who does not get prescription drug coverage through Medicaid or other insurance is eligible for a Medicare-approved drug discount card.

Medicare beneficiaries whose annual income is below $12,569 for an individual or $16,862 for a married couple are eligible for an additional $600 credit this year. Evermann encouraged anyone with questions about the drug cards to contact his or her local Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-551-3191 or the state Office on Aging at 1-800-332-2272.
