Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) submitted an application for funding in August 2002. Montana was one of 24 sites awarded funding to participate in building a national Public Health Tracking network. Montana had a three-year cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for planning and building capacity for an Environmental Public Health Tracking System through July 2006. This project was funded 100% through federal funding. Montana DPHHS received approximately $510,000 per year for three years and ten months. Due to increased costs with the implementation phase, CDC funded fewer sites. Montana is not funded to begin implementation at this time.
