In order to help facilitate EMS planning,
the state was formed into six EMS regions. Following much the
same design of the EMS regions of the 80's, these six regions
can meet several needs:
These regions helped in the formulation
of the EMS System Task Force. It was advantagous help make
sure representation came from each area of the state and
from each type of service and EMS provider.
These regions generally represent
areas with similar patient transport patterns, similar
demographics and distances which are relatively short if
there ever is a need for regional planning or training
meetings.
These regions are closely similar
to the Hospital Association regions and could be used to
meet with hospitals about EMS/hospital related issues at
some point.
The regions are closely similar
to the Trauma Regions (ie. EMS regions 3, 4 and 5 equal
the Eastern Regiona Trauma Region) and can be used at some
point to work with the RTACs on trauma-related issues.
