Section hires EMS Service / Performance Improvement Coordinator
We are very pleased to announce the hiring of Mary Hill for our EMS Service / PI position. Mary comes to us from Raynseford where she volunteers with the Judith Basin EMS service and was the County DES coordinator. Mary starts with us on the 22nd and she'll catching up on service inspections and heading up our transition to a web-based, service licensing system as well as working the new electronic patient care record. |

Chouteau County receives national "Model Community" Award
Public health and emergency medical services in Chouteau County have received a national “Model Community” award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for their efforts to collaborate on emergency preparedness.
The award plaque reads: “For establishing and implementing effective strategies that enhance collaboration and strengthen the relationship between public health and emergency care, thereby serving as an example to other communities to promote the improvement of daily operations and disaster preparedness nationwide.”
Chouteau County is the only rural community in the nation ever to receive this award, according to Linda. "Although this is an incredible accomplishment, my deepest appreciation is for all the emergency personnel that have dedicated countless hours - not for an award, but in order to provide for the welfare and safety of the public in their times of need."  |

EMS System Manager hired
We are pleased to announce that ourposition has been filled by Kevin Fitzgerald. Kevin comes to us as a paramedic EMS System Managerwho has work over 19 years at St. Peter's Ambulance in Helena. Prior to that, he worked at the Hardin Ambulance and the Billings Ambulance Services (Dick Taylor days for some of you older EMTs). Kevin will begin the first week in September and will be hitting the floor running as he gets a handle on coordinating the EMS System Task Force, EMS Plan Development and deployment of our online patient care record. |

Cliff Halls passes
Clifford Charles Halls, 62, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at his home in Alamogordo . In EMS for over 30 years, Cliff was owner of Halls Emergency Ambulance in Bozeman when he was in Montana. At Alamorgordo, he was the Operations Manager for American Medical Response. |

CMS Proposes One Rule & Withdraws Another - JEMS.com
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services proposed a rule in the July 12 Federal Register that would require ambulance staff to sign a statement during transport if a Medicare beneficiary is mentally or physically unable to sign a claim form and has no representative available to do so.  |

Mike Mills passes on July 7, 2007 -
One of Montana's first paramedics, Michael's passions and life's work were skiing and helping people. He was instrumental in education for ski patrol, as a volunteer with Joliet EMS and many other roles important to EMS and the people he came in contact with. |

Ellen Stinar resigns -
Ellen has resigned her position as EMS System Manager and has decided to return ‘home’ to manage Great Falls Emergency Service. While taking on this new challenge, she will also be closer to her family. Ellen has been a great asset to this Section and we will miss her. We wish her well. |

Home Safety Month - Although many people feel safest in their own homes, unintentional injuries in the home result in an average of almost 21 million medical visits a year, according to the Home Safety Council. That's why the organization has dedicated June as Home Safety Month, to educate and empower families and businesses to take actions that will make homes safer.

'Play' Cell Phones & 9-1-1 Calls - Here's a public education opportunity for your community. Dispatch centers in Utah and Louisiana report getting 9-1-1 calls from children playing with deactivated cell phones their parents gave them. It seems that members of the public don't know that under federal law, all cell phones - including those without active service contracts - can place 9-1-1 calls. |
