Cases of infulenza are increasing in Montana

Prevention Tips

To reduce the spread of influenza;

•  Cover your mouth when you cough and/or sneeze

•  Wash your hands frequently

•  Use your own pen to sign receipts

EMS and hospital staff can take further steps when transporting or caring for patients;

•  Use personal protective equipment and rigorously implement infection control practices

•  Place a mask on a symptomatic patient whenever possible to limit droplet spread. If the patient does not tolerate the mask, provide tissues for covering nose and mouth while coughing/sneezing.

•  Deliver oxygen per non-rebreather mask

•  Avoid aerosol-generating procedures, unless necessary for life support

•  Optimize ventilation in the transport vehicle to increase air-exchange during transport

•  Thoroughly clean and disinfect all reusable equipment and surfaces in the ambulance or patient room.
