On Feb. 8, Chuck Lee, Eastern Tier Interoperability Consortium (ETIC) received notice from Jamie Jutila, Senator Max Baucus ’ Field Representative in Bozeman, that the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Awards were just announced, and the Plevna Volunteer Fire District was awarded $328,320 for interoperable communications equipment. The primary goal of AFG Grants is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. Chuck reported that this grant was written as a Regional Grant and included Carter, Fallon, Prairie and Wibaux Counties. The grant provides for 7 new repeaters, 10 new Mobile Command Vehicle Radios and 36 P25 handheld radios. After implementation, all four counties will have new P25 Capable Quantar Repeaters on Law, Fire and EMS Frequencies
