Overview of EMS Service Licensing


 

The EMS & Trauma Systems Section is responsible for the inspection and licensing of prehospital emergency medical services including ground ambulance services, air ambulance services (fixed wing and rotor wing), and non-transporting medical units. These services are licensed at one of three levels: Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Life Support. The licensing program includes the investigation and resolution of complaints concerning service operation or patient care.

Inspections

Each service is inspected at least once every two years and additionally as needed whenever changes of service type or level are made.

Enforcement

Violations are noted during inspections and corrections are required. Complaints about service operations and quality of care are investigated.
