Adaptive Equipment Services

Who?

This service provides statewide access to adaptive equipment and consultation services for people with physical and developmental disabilities who have adaptive equipment needs. The program designs and provides specialized equipment such as wheelchairs, prone standing devices, and access ramps. In 1998, 250 individuals used this service.

What?

The Montana Adaptive Equipment Program (MAEP) offers adaptive equipment services to Montanans with developmental disabilities. The program operates out of the MonTECH Program at the University of Montana’s Rural Institute on Disabilities. A statewide network of specially trained physical and occupational therapists provide equipment evaluation, customization, and training services. An equipment specialist customizes equipment for individual needs and maintains a pool of used equipment to meet short-term needs or to be used in pre-purchase trials.
