History of Independent Living
Provides an historical overview of the emergence of the independent living movement and its importance in shaping societal attitudes. It is divided into the following sections: History of Disability Rights; Emergence of the Independent Living Movement; and Leaders of the Independent Living Movement. The RapidCourse will be especially useful to help New CIL staff and boards and new SILC members in becoming oriented to independent living.

Overview of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Provides an overview of the statutory, legal, and regulatory aspects of independent living. This course is divided into two sections: The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Related Statutes and Regulations of Independent Living. The RapidCourse will be especially useful to help New CIL staff and boards and new SILC members in becoming oriented to independent living.

Roles and Responsibilities of the IL Partners
Provides an overview of the key roles and responsibilities of the Centers for Independent Living (CILs), Statewide Independent Living Centers (SILCs), and Designated State Units (DSUs) in the total independent living program. The course will be especially useful to help New CIL staff and boards and new SILC members in becoming oriented to the roles and responsibilities of independent living partners.

Statutory Basis and Purpose of the SPIL
Provides an overview of good practices for developing a State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) in collaboration with the Designated State Unit (DSU) and other agencies. The course will be especially useful for SILC members in helping them understand requirements for the SPIL.
