The purpose of BRFSS since its inception has been to gather information on health-related behavior of adults in order to improve the health of the American people. The BRFSS system provides vital data over a period of decades which is vital to determining change over time.

While data in and of itself is valuable, it is the resulting analysis and reports that are the crux of the true value provided by BRFSS to the local, state, and national health communities. With that in mind, this Results section has as its intent to provide a balance of basic frequency data for those who want quick answers to a wide variety of topics all the way through the continuum of special reports dedicated to research and analysis of a certain topic in depth. Published reports assessing the health risks of Montanans also provide insight into the status of our health.

The Outdoor Recreation Module developed by the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department is a prime example of the integration of BRFSS data with an agency’s desire to use reliable data to make informed decisions in its strategic planning for the future. The module epitomizes the collaborative efforts of the FWP and the Department of Public Health and Human Services to improve the health of Montanans through outdoor recreational opportunities.
