Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Montana Department of Health & Human Services to conduct a random survey of Montanans to determine their outdoor recreation activities, preferences, and needs for additional outdoor recreation facilities. The Outdoor Recreation Survey was added as a module of state-specific questions in the 2002 Montana BRFSS Survey. This module was the first of its kind nationally, and the results were used to evaluate outdoor recreation facility demand for the 2003 -- 2007 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).

The results of the 2002 Outdoor Recreation Survey are provided here in "raw data" format (in other words, the data have not been statistically weighted or adjusted in any way). Individual county results are available by clicking within the county on the map, or by selecting a county from the drop-down menu below.
NOTE: For counties with fewer than 30 responses, which numbers are considered statistically unreliable, several counties were grouped together to form a "region."
