Children's Mental Health Bureau
System of Care Infrastructure Development Grants
The Children's Mental Health Bureau (CMHB) of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is offering matching grants to community programs that can help to implement a system of care for children who need mental health services, particularly those children with serious emotional disturbances.
Applications must be received by February 10, 2005. Late applications will be returned unread.
The bureau will offer five grants each for exploration, planning, and implementation of Kids Management Authorities (KMA), which will be the primary building block of the state children's mental health care system. One of each category of grants will be awarded within each administrative region. For application materials, click on the grant category.
The bureau is currently accepting applications for exploration grants of up to $5,000. These may be used through June 30, 2006. The grants are intended to help communities establish core community groups to explore development of KMAs. Applicants must be able to provide a 25 percent match for the grant amount requested. The match may be cash or in-kind services.
Planning grants will be awarded in amounts up to $15,000 and may be used through June 30, 2006. These grants are intended to help communities continued development of Kids Management Authorities. Applicants must be able to provide a 25 percent match for the grant amount requested. The match may be cash or in-kind services.
About March 1, 2005, the bureau expects to issue requests for proposals for implementation grants . These grants are for communities that have achieved the objectives of the KMA planning grant. The grants will be for two years, subject to annual approval. About $100,000 to $150,000 will be available each year. Communities will be expected to provide a 25-percent cash or in-kind match the first year and a 35 percent match the second year.
A single community may apply for more than one of the grants, but it will be able to get only one grant at a time. The CMHB anticipates that these grant opportunities will be offered again in state fiscal year 2006, subject to funding availability.
