Public Health System Improvement Task Force


From the inception of the Task Force in 1993 until the present time, some of the public health improvement task force accomplishments have included:

  • Developing, implementing and updating a Strategic Plan for Public Health System Improvement
  • Raising awareness of the importance of the public health system
  • Training the public health work force through a variety of venues, including the Montana Public Health Training Institute , as well as a learning management system—Montana’s Training and Communication Center (TCC)
  • Implementing a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Turning Point Initiative
  • Enhancing communication and coordination between state and local agencies by providing information, support, opportunities for involvement, and statewide meetings for Lead Local Public Health Officials on a regular basis
  • Ensuring that public health emergency preparedness activities are improving the public health system and performance of its routine responsibilities, as well as better preparing the state to respond to large-scale public health events and emergencies
  • Preparing legislation to modernize the public health statutes with wide stakeholder involvement and consultation from the Center for Law and the Public’s Health at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown Universities
  • Completing the state and 16 local performance assessments using the CDC National Public Health Performance Standards
  • Developing the Association of Montana Public Health Officials (AMPHO) to facilitate clear communication and collaboration across the public health system in Montana in matters concerning public health policy and best practices.
