Microbiology/Molecular Biology
Overview
The Microbiology/ Molecular Biology section of the Montana Public Health Laboratory provides a wide range of microbiological activities including testing specimens for:
- Identification of microorganisms which may lead to communicable disease outbreaks
- Diseases of public health significance that are too rare or unusual to be identified by other laboratories
- Diseases that are prevalent in populations traditionally unwilling to approach private medicine
- Agents that may used in a bioterrorism event
This section also performs studies aimed at the identification of new and emerging pathogens, or strain comparison of existing pathogens using molecular methods for epidemiological studies.
In addition, data is centralized for rapid review by epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists and other public health decision makers.
